FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) announced today the appointment of Carole Johnson to senior vice president of advertising. Reporting to Shira Goodman, Staples executive vice president of marketing, Johnson will have responsibility for developing and producing all marketing communications for Staples U.S. Retail business, Staples Business Delivery, Staples Contract division and the company's Canadian delivery business.

Previously, Johnson was vice president of marketing for AAi.FosterGrant, a leading supplier of sunglass and optical products. Prior to that, she was vice president of marketing at Monster, the largest Internet job search engine, where she drove dramatic growth through advertising campaigns. Prior to Monster, Johnson served for more than twenty years at The Gillette Company in a range of executive positions in sales, marketing and business management. She is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management. She lives in Southborough, Massachusetts and has two daughters.
