Staples Appoints Shira D. Goodman Executive Vice President of Marketing

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Staples, Inc., today announced the appointment of Shira D. Goodman as executive vice president of marketing. Goodman will report to Ronald L. Sargent, president and COO of Staples, and serve on the company's senior management team. She had previously served as senior vice president of StaplesDirect.com, the company's e-commerce and catalog operation.

"Shira's experience in integrating our e-commerce and catalog businesses, driving double-digit growth of our catalog operations, and running marketing efforts for two of our business units is a testament to her exceptional abilities. In her new position, Goodman will be responsible for the strategic, operational and financial aspects of Staples' marketing programs across its retail, catalog, contract and Internet businesses. She will lead marketing programs including television, print and radio advertising, direct mail and special programs. Goodman succeeds Robert Moore, who has decided to leave the company to pursue other interests, but will remain through July 2 to help in the transition.

Since joining Staples in 1992, Goodman has held several senior executive positions leading Staples' growth in its catalog and Contract and Commercial divisions. As senior vice president of StaplesDirect.com, Goodman has worked on integrating Staples' catalog business, Staples Direct, with its e-commerce operation, Staples.com. Previously, as senior vice president of Staples Direct, she grew that operation more than 60 percent to an $850 million North American business, with specific focus on marketing, merchandising and customer service. Goodman also has held positions as vice president of marketing for Staples National Advantage and director of marketing for Staples Direct.

Prior to Staples, Goodman was a manager at Bain and Co., where she helped develop the strategy to launch Staples' catalog business in 1989. Goodman holds a bachelor's degree from Princeton University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a master's degree from MIT's Sloan School of Management. She is married with three children.
